For parents who want to worry less and play more!

Swimming, swimming in the swimming pool…

After my epiphany about the flashcards, I performed a quick inventory of where we were as a family and the things that were causing us stress. Of course there were the obvious things—work, after school play dates (too many of them,) and lastly too many extra curricular activities in general. Rushing from school to the next random activity was definitely driving me crazy. I knew it was only a matter of time before we had an “incident” on I-5.

So after careful consideration I decided to draft up some rules. After all, I’m trying to embrace the “slacker mom” trend while still remaining true to the slightly uptight, type A person I know I am. I thought myself so progressive by involving the kids in the decision making. We decided that in a house with twins (the continuous play date) one extra play date with a friend a week was probably enough for all of us. We decided that at least three days a week, mommy or daddy picks them up from school and we have our own play date until bedtime. And lastly, we decided that we would curtail our extra-curricula’s to two in a week (which, oh by the way, still seems like a lot so we compromised and do one on the weekend.)
