For parents who want to worry less and play more!

Bugaboo, will you?

Yes, folks, it’s the Bugaboo. Proving once again that “keeping up with the Jones” is critical to every mother’s success. Designed in Amsterdam and available for a mere $729.00 (that’s on one of the “best prices” websites) you too can have your infant travel in the lap of luxury.

It does look like a fabulous stroller but over $700 come on? Does it glide along the pavement? Does it hold the bottle for you? Does it comfort the baby with sweet tunes when they’re crying? When we had the twins I was always amazed at our final bill at the check out counter of Babies R Us. I think our most expensive item was the Dutailier glider and believe me, its worth it’s weight in gold (even though I’ll admit it’s ugly.) We found our double baby jogger–discarded on the side of the road. It needed a new tire, sun and rain cover but still we thought “what a score–those double joggers are $300 or more.” I’m trying not to be too judgmental but I’ve got to tell you, unless it pushes itself up hills I’m not buying it!

to “Bugaboo, will you?”

  1. Yes I bought a Bugaboo and must come clean. As well as share a few things.

    1. The price tag is NUTS
    2. It does not push itself but it may as well- it is a really well thought out, well build buggy and one that is incredibly easy to manipulate.
    3. I ask all of the moms/dads out there how many strollers they have needed to purchase from age 0-4 and what that dollar figure looks like. For me with my 1st child that grand total was approximately $650 ($300 for a 1st stroller, $200 for a jogger and about 50 bucks for an umbrella stroller). Well my friends the Bugaboo is a one stop stroller since it goes 0-4 on all fronts.
    4. Another fact that cinched the deal for me is that I have a really bad lower back, surgeries and all. The B is one of if not the lightest stroller around.

Now I do realize that the Jones’ factor is huge with many- for me it boiled down to a few logistics and the fact that I am a gear/gadget junkie just ask anyone that knows me.
A few months ago we took our 5 year old and our 5 month old to France for a few weeks and there was not a day that went by (all too fast) that we were not singin’ the praises of the B. Granted here in Seattle we are not as covered in cobblestone as the Parisians, however be it in France or in the Market (Pike Place) this stroller is one smooth ride.

  2. Because the internet does not convey facial expressions or tone of voice, please believe me when I say I am not trying to be snotty, sarcastic, self-righteous, or otherwise annoying. But this is a pretty standard European stroller well designed for European city living. It’s a lot like the stroller we have - a Quinny - and the price is pretty similar, too. Half the families I know have Quinnys. Then again, half the families I know don’t have cars, take public transportation everywhere, take the stroller over cobblestone streets and gravel hiking paths (yes, it is one smooth ride, and the 360 degree rotating front wheel is a must in European grocery stores which have aisles half the width of American super stores), and use the undercarriage to carry the groceries home after walking to the grocery store with the baby. If you don’t have a car, your stroller is your life. Would we have bought this stroller if we were still living in DC? Impossible to say. But not a day goes by when I don’t think my stroller was worth every penny - well, Swiss Franc.
