Barbie Hands…

I’m not really sure whether or not this is blog worthy but I have to take a moment to vent. I never thought I’d openly admit this but yes, my daughter plays with Barbies. No matter how much I tried to escape the pull of pink and purple flowers, the big hair, the blank stare in Barbie’s eyes, I simply couldn’t keep her away. So alas, I gave in. What can I say, she loves playing with them. And when I overhear the elaborate stories she’s making up with them it makes me feel slightly better, like there is some inherent value in Barbie. Now here’s the peeve…

Why in the world do they make Barbie’s thumbs stick out so far? You see what I mean right? It shows up perfectly in this Versace collectors edition. It makes it absolutely impossible to get them through the tiny holes they call sleeves in all the pretty dresses. I can not tell you how many tears have been shed over mommy tearing the sleeve by trying to jam it past those ever elegant, slender fingers. I spend hours it seems playing Barbie with my daughter, most of the time spent trying to take on and off various garments that don’t fit quite right.

Note to Mattel, please hear this one mommy’s plea. Either redesign those fingers or make the sleeves a tad bigger. I really don’t think it’ll interrupt the flow of the dress. And while your at it, please make sure that the clothes fit the Barbies with the slightly bigger booty–my daughter likes playing with them the best!
