I’m hitting the road for a solid week to promote our new line of children’s educational DVD’s, “Braincandy, My 5 Senses.” As many of you know, this blog is sponsored by Braincandy and is really a vehicle to continue the conversation that we as parents find ourselves having all the time. Chats about work, family, education, parenting and balance.

As I leave on this trip it strikes me that the last on the list, “balance” seems to be so elusive. Mainly because our business and our life as parents is so commingled. I will be away from my children for 5 days but will be visiting children’s stores, children’s museums–all the places that will bring me back to missing my kids. It’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make now because I feel so strongly and passionately about what we’re doing with Braincandy.

We started Braincandy because we felt like parents were looking for an alternative in children’s media –turning away from the pressure producing, hype type content that claims to make our children smarter by introducing them to the ABC’s and 123’s at an early age. Our content focuses on children learning about themselves as they experience the world around them. Rather than learning through video flashcards that simply fill our children with knowledge, the content in Braincandy engages children and helps them to think about how the dots are connected in their world and how their world is connected to them. We see how stimulating young children to think creatively and independently about their world changes their view—we’ve seen it in our own children who we think are the most curious, innovative thinking kids around (of course, aren’t all of our children?)
