After 4 days of being cooped up in my house with a very uncomfortable, tonsiless little boy, finally a little levity.
Our daughter can tend to be a bit, shall we say, mothering. The mothering of the smothering type unfortunately. And at 5, it’s really hard to explain to her why her brother doesn’t want to be hugged and kissed all the time when his throat feels like he just swallowed a fire torch. So, we’ve pretty much been engaged in our special Sunday movie night, every night. The big surprise the other night was a movie they’d never seen before, “The Sound of Music.” All four of us (dad included) climbed into our bed and snuggled up for a good watch. It really is such an incredible movie. The music, the singing and dancing, the story, all are just amazing. For once it was a movie all of us could enjoy.
And now for the levity. We got to the part where the “Captain” finally admits that he is really in love with “Maria.” And they have a magical kiss in the moonlight. At that moment Blaise perked up and said, “That’s it! It’s too late.” When I asked her what she meant she said, “Well, mama, it’s too late for the “fancy” girl (the baroness) because now they’re in love, they kissed and that means they’re getting married.” Johnny and I had a great laugh and were amazed at the connections that our five year olds are making about how the world works!

It’s one of Flora and my favorites too. We’ve watched it more times than I can count and she watches it when I”m not always around. We sang Doe a Deer for months on end and acted out the So Long Farewell scene till I was ready to be carried out of the house.
I think I told you about Flora noticing how I kiss John is different from how I kiss her and wanted me to kiss her the same way. Blaise’s comment made me think of that.
