This was a busy weekend. And when we have those busy weekends as a family and don’t have the opportunities to come together as a unit I try to spend a little bit of one on one time with each of my children. As I sat with my daughter on my lap I asked her a very pointed question. I said, “if I had no money and I couldn’t buy you a thing would that be ok?” her response was, “that’s ok, mama, I wouldn’t care, as long as I have love and my family.” Now that doesn’t mean that the next time we’re at the store she won’t ask for a Barbie, some gum, a new set of magic markers, and anything else she might see while we’re waiting on line. But for that one moment, I felt I must have the most empathetic, special child in the entire world. Why do we need emotional intelligence–because without it we’ll never get answers like the one I got today. And in my book, it was the best answer I ever could have asked for.
