Announcement and Curious George?

Hello all visitors, commenters and posters!

Since we are just a few months from hitting our 1 year anniversary for PlayIsTheWork.com i thought i would share some interesting news and information about updates. This has a been a great year so far and we continue to be in awe of the amount of traffic we receive here at PITW. Thank you all for the wonderfully insightfull posts which have been drawing much attention from people across the country and around the world. The amount of visits and hits continue to climb here at PITW and just last month when we thought traffic would have slowed we topped 34K. Not too shabby for a little blog. Most notable however is the fact that this blog is different than most in that it spends an impressive amount of time consistently speaking to the trend in parenting that addresses the pressures involved in raising children big and small. Many blogs often stray feeding the bin with vacuous chatter. This is fine with PITW of course but knowing that there are alternatives out there like PITW that can provide you with something a bit more tangible can ultimately be more satisfying. At PITW we greatly appreciate the efforts made to stay on track.

We hope that more interested visitors and commenters sign up with us to become regular posters. Many of the those visitors we receive are regulars but more often than not avoid commenting. This is of course fine with us but we at PITW encourage you to try leaving a comment or two because we know the topic is important. With this in mind we are now opening the gates for anyone to register! It’s simple, just go to the register page, provide us a username and email address and we’ll send you a password lickity split. The register link can always be found at the bottom of the right hand column under the “meta” category. If you need help after registration I can simply send you a blog starter email to get you started. Just email me at johnny@braincandykids.com. We hope you join us at PITW to continue the conversation of this very hot topic!

(Has anyone seen the ending speech by the man in the yellow hat in the new Curious George movie? You should!)

This leads us to our next little announcement. This blog thing has been a learning process for the administator, the Daddy, having taking over some of the more technical issues just a few months ago. Only just yesterday did we discover that there had been more commenters than realized, many of which had been buried in the spam catalog along with many spammers. We’ve already made sure to reinsert those comments into the blog, some go back months ago. We also are making it a point to check the spammers list 2x/wk. for more legit comments from other visitors. There is a new version 2.01 release of Word Press, the engine behind this blog, that will be installed in the next couple of week. This should help us take care of this issue and many other issues regarding the usability of PITW.

Our 3rd little announcement comes in the form of a visual overhaul. As we witness the increased interest in PITW we feel its now time to add some color! We’re currently researching all our options for a quick and easy makeover to PITW that will create a more appealing environment for all who visit. We only just started researching but we would love to get some feedback from you. What do you think should or could be the new look and feel for PITW? Keep this in mind, hot topic, progressive parenting, not too serious, worrying less and playing more. Any ideas?

Thanks for listening,

Johnny the Administrator

PS: What you think of PITW as a subject matter? Is it relevant to your family situation? Do you know of friends that are parents that would benefit from such a blog? Do you find the postings interesting, insightful or out of touch? Where do you stand?

One Response to “Announcement and Curious George?”

  1. I think PITW is important. I have forwarded on messages to other parents about the whole issue of pressure on our kids to “learn more now”. They have been grateful to hear they are not alone in thinking they should worry less.

I have found the discussions relevant, helpful and well written. It is good to read of other parents thinking through some of the same struggles and concerns that I share. It makes me feel less alone and isolated in this fast paced world.

  2. Thanks Suzanne, it’s always nice to hear those supportive comments..do you ever share these thoughts with your daughter reagardless of whether she fully understands them?
