As many of you know, I’m devoted to this blog. I love the conversation that I have with other parents–especially moms who are looking for a more balanced approach to parenting and education. When I have breaks in my posting (like the last 10 days) it’s usually due to something relating to the new business my husband and I started almost two years ago (so does that still qualify as a “new” business?) Braincandy.
It has been such an incredible experience building and creating awesome products as part of Braincandy, but one of the coolest parts of the job is being a surrogate member of the Toy industry. Last week in New York, in the midst of the biggest snow storm the city had seen since 1947, incredible inventors and entrepreneurs brought their ideas to the market as part of the American International Toy Fair. It’s incredible to see the unique, hot, new toys and games—some truly take your breath away and you wonder why we didn’t have them! So in the interest of spreading the word and supporting other small companies like ours who create great products for your kids, here’s my “mommy” trip report:
Automoblox Not just for boys, these cars, trucks, vans are all transformers. All the pieces fit with the pieces from the other models and all the people have their own shapes. They’re mod and slick—perfect for the urban kid.
Begoths For a new alternative to Barbie, think goth. Now I know this isn’t for everyone, and some of you will be freaked out, but heck, my daughter was the only 4 year old who wanted to go for Halloween as a “dead” princess. I’m trying to embrace it.
Fun Slides Embrace you’re shag with these awesomely cool skates for the rug.
Baffle Gab For kids starting to read and motivated by creativity, this new board game is a winner! Developed by a mom and teacher in Seattle, it’s a way to bring the family together to make learning fun!
Ugly Dolls I discovered these cool plush toys in San Francisco about two years ago and yes, they’re still as ugly as ever. They’re kind of like pugs–they’re so ugly they’re cute.
Radio Flyer Go, go, go-cart. Oh yea, the little red wagon on steroids! My five year olds are all over this one!
Acting Out Dress Up Musical tutu’s–do I need to say anything more?
Braincandy A great new set of products–both DVD and CD, Braincandy is all about kids learning about themselves and they experience the world around them. Check out our new release due out in April, “Eyecandy, Can You See it?” a tantilizing adventure into the sense of sight!
Enjoy–let me know what you think of my picks…
