Wanted to pass along a really interesting article that was published in last Sunday’s New York Times (yes, I’m just getting to read the paper and its Saturday.) It’s called, “Children, The Littlest Politicians.” It suggests that the gender of our children is starting to play a large role in how we lean–politically. Having a son tends to make parents more conservative, while having a daughter makes them more liberal. They’ve studied this phenomenon in depth in Europe and are just beginning to do research in the United States. Interestingly it’s not just issues like abortion rights and taxes that are influencers. A whole host of other complexities seem to be responsible for this new trend.
I have always been a liberal. And while I don’t lean quite as far to the left as I once did, having children doesn’t seem to have changed this much. Maybe with a boy and a girl they cancel each other out Give it a read…
