For parents who want to worry less and play more!

Orca here we come…

As you know if you’re a reader of this blog, among my many stresses in life involves the ongoing education of my children. For the last three years (this year they are in pre-K) they’ve been at a wonderful independent school called, Giddens. Everything about this school, pretty much, is fantastic. Small class sizes, wonderful teachers, tons of diversity of every kind and lots and lots of parent involvement. Unfortunately, the price tag has continued to rise and what started at about 8k per year is now at 12.5. With twins, that’s a 25k ca-ching every year. By the time my kids are ready for middle school we would have blown the college budget. So we thrust ourselves into the public school arena trying to play the odds and get into the best school we could—seems a bit like the “Russian roulette of education” here in Seattle. There are some very good public schools and some mediocre ones. Sad to think that with the outrageous tax we pay here I can’t even feel comfortable sending my children to my local school down the street. We received our placement letters yesterday and while we didn’t get our first choice, we got our second and thankfully both my kids got into the same school (believe it or not, it’s not always a given.) It’s a great school with a very similar feeling and many of the same values, and many of the same families of the school the children attend currently. Hopefully that will make the transition a bit easier. I know that my kids will do fine, it’s me who’s a little apprehensive. I am thankful for the amazing start they’ve had these past three years and am ready to experience what the future brings. I just hope it’s a system that I’m able to navigate and an environment where I can continue to see my children thrive and grow.

The big bonus—you know of my son Logan’s obsession with Orcas? Their new school: “Orca at Columbia…”
