And who is the coolest? Well, there are a lot of them and I feel so incredibly proud to be among them. When women have children whether they’re working outside the home or not, we tend to feel like our life’s work has now become 100% about our kids. I grant you, my identity has changed since having children. No longer do I feel compelled to dye my hair purple and ride on the back of my boyfriend’s (now husband) Harley but I do still want to feel a certain element of cool.
Imagine my suprise at being included in this new book, “Cool Mom Inventors: Secrets of 76 Successful Mommy Inventors.” When we started our company, Braincandy, our intention was to create content and products for very young children that engaged them to think differently and create a look, feel, concepts and philosophy resonated with “cool” moms like me. I didn’t want to see a bunch of kids running around in a primary GAP blue t-shirt and shorts. I wanted to see “styled” kids who were unique, cool, multi-cultural and hip in their own right. Why hadn’t anyone come up with a concept like this? I believe it’s because creators of content for young kids believe they can have less than “high-quality” content and get away with it. As an adult, you’d never stand for sub-quality when it comes to “Lost” or “Alias” so why should we subject our kids to crap. So we at Braincandy spent a bit more money, worked with really amazingly creative moms and dads and came up with a formula that kids and their grown ups simply LOVE.
I haven’t read the book yet—I’ve just ordered it from Amazon but I’m sure for all mom’s, me included, it’ll be inspiring. To see how moms have created new products that appeal to the way we live and what we want is just so, well… “cool.” A shameless plug for me and most certainly the creator of this book, Victoria Pericon—the original “Cool Mom Inventor.”
