The academic push — how early is too early? This is a question I spend a lot of time thinking about. I think about it as it relates to my own life with my 6 year old twins, but also it has a big influence in affecting the way we think about our business, Braincandy.
When we developed our initial ideas for our first series, they were all about creating products that layed the “foundation” for learning rather than drilling kids to acquire knowledge above all else. I believe we deliver on these attributes but this article gave me some pause. While I fervently believe that learning is a natural, organic process where children need to be actively engaged and participating, I also wonder how the academic push affects children.
