I read this editorial today and thought I’d share it with the rest of you. On January 18th the Washington Legislature convenes and with the abysmal state of education in our state as is suggested in this opinion column, education funding should be at the top of the list of issues to address. Would it surprise you to know that Washington state consistently ranks in the bottom fifth of the nation in funding public education.
As a parent of two children recently entering kindergarten in our public school system, I have great hope and expectation for the opportunity they have to get a great education. They are in a stimulating diverse environment and I hope they’ll learn every bit as much and as well as they would if they remained in private school. For that to happen, Washington State needs to start prioritizing education funding and taking an interest beyond WASL scores.
